Version 1.3 of sLML is released

Toronto, Ontario, December 2009 - Version 1.3 of the open source Structured Learning Markup Language (sLML) has been released to further help learning designers and developers standardize authoring.

Version 1.3 of the open source Structured Learning Markup Language (sLML) has been released to the general public through Sourceforge.net.

The new version includes sample XML files and an open source authoring template (SPS file) based on Altova’s Authentic® XML editor. The markup language was initially designed to help course designers and developers standardize their development practices through technology that is consistent with semantic web technologies. The new release of sLML with the SPS file provides a visual interface to help authors work their way through the schema.

sLML will help organizations transition from outdated design and development methodologies and make use of advancements in web technology that allow for machine facilitated understanding of content.

“sLML had over sixty downloads in the first few months it has been around. We’re pleased with those results as the industry is starting to appreciate standardized markup languages to help the design and development process” says Reuben Tozman, Chief Learning Officer for edCetra Training.

At this point no standardized processing is planned for in the specification, but organizations are encouraged to build their own processing and contribute to the Sourceforge.net project.
