edCetra Training Launches New Markup Language for Learning
Toronto, Ontario, July 2009 - edCetra Training Inc., has launched Structured Learning Markup Language (sLML) as an open source markup language to help learning designers and developers standardize authoring.
edCetra Training, a custom learning service provider headquartered in Toronto, Ontario has released its first draft of Structured Learning Markup Language (sLML) to the general public through Sourceforge.net.
The new markup language is designed to help course designers and developers standardize their development practices through technology that is consistent with semantic web technologies. The release of sLML will help organizations build tools and methodologies that can deliver content through multiple channels and process content in real time.
sLML will help organizations transition from outdated design and development methodologies and make use of advancements in web technology that allow for machine facilitated understanding of content.
“Just-in-time training has been the holy grail for learning professionals for many years. Although the semantic web won’t address all learning requirements everywhere, the technology promises to deliver the just-in-time model better than any of the past” says Reuben Tozman, Chief Learning Officer for edCetra Training.
The sLML specification will consist of a draft specification document and the XML schemas. At this point no standardized processing is planned for in the specification, but edCetra Training encourages organizations to build their own processing and contribute to the Sourceforge.net project.
“We’re only at the beginning of the specification. Our goal is to grow the specification with industry support and input over time. We’re proud to have gone this far, now its time to let others have their say.” says Nancy Safar, president of edCetra Training Inc.
